Where to Park

Weekday Parking

Access to Lot Y is NOT available during the week (only on the weekends). Except by prior arrangement, such as for Thursday Rehearsal time-slots, parking during business hours for the lots surrounding the Chapel is restricted to faculty and staff members only. If you are coming to visit the Chapel during the week, contact the Chapel Office (301-314-9866) in advance to arrange parking. Parking meters require payment Monday-Friday, 7AM-10PM.

Wedding Parking

Parking spaces are conveniently located near the Chapel for your wedding rehearsal and wedding day:

• Lot Y: 113 spaces (directly behind the Chapel)

If Lot Y is filled:

• Exit the lot at the barrier (which rises automatically as you approach it)
• Turn right onto Chapel Drive
• Turn left at Regents Drive
• Take the first right into Lot L or continue in Lot L to the first right, giving you access to Lot C2 or Lot C1 to your left

• Lot L: 135 spaces
• Lot C1: 170 spaces
• Lot C2: 87 spaces

Event guests may park in these lots without penalty for the duration of your rental period. To view the locations of these lots, please view the campus parking map.

If you hold your reception on campus, your guests' vehicles must be driven to the reception location in order to ensure Chapel-area parking for the next wedding or event. Wedding parties/guests may not park in Lots A, B, D or W, areas for disabled individuals, fire lanes, or service or courier parking spaces. Parking in any of these areas may result in a parking ticket issued by the campus parking unit. Please notify in advance your wedding party, guests, officiant, and vendors of parking privileges and restrictions.

Rehearsal Parking

Thursday night couples will receive 15 parking permits that may be used in Lot Y only. The gate to the lot will automatically open at 4:00 pm. Friday night couples will not require parking permits for Lot Y.

Disabled Access

Many disabled parking spaces are located in the vicinity of the Chapel. A grade-level entrance to the Garden Chapel is directly off Lot Y. The Main Chapel has ramped access through north side entrance. Accessible rest rooms are available via the north side entrance.

Guest Entrances

Guests for Main Chapel weddings will use the front entrance to the Chapel facing Route 1. Guests for Garden Chapel weddings will will use the rear entrance off Lot Y.

Deliveries

Vendors making wedding deliveries should park in Lot Y behind the Chapel or along the north side of the Chapel in a spot marked "courier." Spaces marked "service" are for UMD facilities staffers only.

Limousines

Drivers are allowed to wait at the front curb with flashers on during the ceremony.

Carriages, Buses, etc.

Getting to the Chapel

From the Capital Beltway (I-95/I-495):

• Exit 25, (or Exit 27 if coming from Baltimore)
• Go 2.5 miles south on US 1, past Campus Drive, toward downtown College Park
• Turn right onto campus at Regents Drive, just before the downtown business district
• Memorial Chapel will be on the corner of Regents and Chapel Drive
• Turn left on Chapel Drive
• Turn left at the dead end and enter Lot Y (Do not park in Lot W)

If Lot Y is filled:

• Exit the lot at the barrier (which rises automatically as you approach it)
• Turn right onto Chapel Drive
• Turn left at Regents Drive
• Take the first right into Lot L or continue in Lot L to the first right, giving you access to Lot C2 or Lot C1 to your left

If you would like to give your guests an address to use in online mapping systems or sites, please use the main address of the University of Maryland's College Park campus, as Memorial Chapel does not have a street address.

If It's Game Day

While athletic schedules are made months in advance, the actual game time sometimes isn't scheduled until a few weeks before the event; start times may be determined by the television network carrying the game. Couples will be notified of football and basketball home games as soon as the schedules are set. We recommend that guests are sent the following alternate directions and parking information to help them avoid game-related traffic delays.
